Digital Scrapbooks!!Students enrolled learn to create a digital portfolio / scrapbook of the super happening events in the Elementary building. Students apply word processing skills, utilize a Microsoft Publisher software program, manage digital photos in efforts to create a digital scrapbook of their 5th grade learning experience in the Elementary Building. All of the pages in their digital book includes a descriptive narrative as to "What's Happening" in the photographs. This kind of book making endeavor is totally engaging, authentic, student-centered, collaborative, and so much more!! In other words, RICH IN BEST PRACTICE strategies! Fifth Grade Media SpecialsStudents in Media Specials capture the highlights from the super happenings in the Elementary building through digital scrapbooking. Yes! That's right--digital scrapbooking! Students learn to apply their writing process skills, the software program Microsoft Publisher, and how to import pictures taken throughout the building to incorporate into their computerized books. This creative approach to publishing their work allows them to become actively engaged in whatever the Elementary building is hosting (in and out of the classroom). 5th grade students, later, have the opportunity to build upon these technical skills by writing a Middle School Newsletter in a course called 'Publishing'. Students are assessed for their ability to:
