Title 1 Media Support Specialist

There are primarily three functions of the school library media program...

  • Provide Information Skills through the technology. Covert Public Schools staff and students can use WORLD BOOK ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION at home and at school. Visit http://www.worldbookonline.com to access the account. Contact me for the 'at home' access information.

  • Help Teachers Teach by applying collaborative strategies to help students use their minds well. Through engaged activities that are initiated throughout the whole school, staff and students have ample opportunity to display learning during events such as National Hispanic Heritage Month, Academic Fairs, Exhibitions, etc. The media program supplies materials and resources, and support in efforts to produce and showcase authentic learning experiences. Generally these activities or engagements are open to the community too.

  • Promote Reading through monthly read-alouds, scholastic book fairs, book talks, book clubs, etc., offered here at Covert Public Schools. The library media program encourages and engages students in reading, viewing, and listening for understanding and enjoyment. Would you like to be a guest reader? Students enrolled learn to create a digital portfolio / scrapbook of the super happening events in the Elementary building.  Students apply word processing skills, utilize a Microsoft Publisher software program, manage digital photos in efforts to create a digital scrapbook of their 5th grade learning experience in the Elementary Building.

All of the pages in their digital book includes a descriptive narrative as to "What's Happening" in the photographs.  This kind of book making endeavor is totally engaging, authentic, student-centered, collaborative, and so much more!!  In other words, RICH IN BEST PRACTICE strategies!

Students in Media Specials capture the highlights from the super happenings in the Elementary building through digital scrapbooking.  Yes! That's right--digital scrapbooking!  Students learn to apply their writing process skills, the software program Microsoft Publisher, and how to import pictures taken throughout the building to incorporate into their computerized books.  This creative approach to publishing their work allows them to become actively engaged in whatever the Elementary building is hosting (in and out of the classroom).  5th grade students, later, have the opportunity to build upon these technical skills by writing a Middle School Newsletter in a course called 'Publishing'.

Students are assessed for their ability to:

  • Demonstrate cooperative, caring, and committed behavior in effort, participation, and dedication.
  • Demonstrate ability to create digital presentation of academic work.
  • Demonstrate ability to create portfolio utilizing graphic technology.
  • Demonstrates word processing skills.
